Matthew Hebden have supplied 1800 metres of T-Pren gutter expansion joints for the port terminal buildings on the Hong Kong Zhuhai bridge, the world’s longest sea crossing bridge.
The large ‘wave form’ roofs of the terminal buildings produced a challenging expansion problem, which was solved using the welded T-Pren expansion joint. This allowed freedom of movement but produced a waterproof joint.
T-Pren is a composite material with a centre section of neoprene to provide the expansion and contraction bonded to aluminium on either side, which is then welded onto sections of the metal gutter. The bonding is done under strictly controlled factory conditions in accordance with ISO 9001 quality standards.
