GDL ventilation grilles chosen for Mental Health facility in Hertfordshire

Project name: Adult Mental Health Unit
Market sector: Health
Geographic sector: Hertfordshire

Project details
The new £42m Adult Mental Health facility in Hertfordshire is an 88 bed unit providing welfare, therapy and treatment for adults suffering with mental illnesses and learning difficulties. There are 5 specific areas for vulnerable, acute and learning disability wards built across two blocks that are connected by a link. The new facility has been built on an area previously occupied by a Hospital.

The predominantly single storey development has been built within 11 acres of woodland on the disused hospital site. The design is sympathetic to its surroundings utilizing timber clad insulated panels and panoramic windows taking advantage of the beautiful grounds and creating a peaceful, therapeutic atmosphere for patients.

Project overview
Working alongside their client, M&E contractor Norstead, GDL supplied both standard and bespoke ventilation grilles for the project. In order to meet the requirements of the consultant they designed and manufactured bespoke anti-ligature grilles for the facility that needed to be a specific size with a unique flange arrangement. The anti ligature grilles are designed to prevent patients from causing harm to themselves or others.
