KONE sliding doors & enclosure pod at Newcastle Airport

KONE sliding doors & enclosure pod at Newcastle Airport

As part of a refurbishment at Newcastle International Airport KONE supplied a large containment enclosure pod fully glazed with aluminium framework and a set of KONE 3 metre wide automated telescopic sliding doors at either end.

KONE worked closely with HRS the identity management specialists, to integrate the KONE doors with MFlow Exit Lanes, HRS’ anti-back track solution for airports. The door systems are unique because they are automatically triggered in conjunction with the MFlow Exit Lanes solution.

The doors work with HRS MFlow Exit Lanes solution which combines human behavioural analysis technology with ‘smart surveillance’ CCTV and KONE’s doors to manage passenger flow and identify people moving in the wrong direction or loitering in the vicinity of the exit lanes. The doors have anti back track capability meaning they are programmed to stop people coming back through certain areas once the alarm has been raised.

At Newcastle, as part of the design scheme, KONE were also asked to automate 2 sets of swing doors within International Arrivals and a separate Aluminium screen incorporating a pair of automatic bi-parting sliding doors and automation of an additional 2 sets of swing doors to the airports Domestic Arrivals hall.

Positive feedback from both HRS and Newcastle International Airport has lead toHRS inviting KONE to partner with them on a number of tenders for other airport installations spread through-out the UK.
