Natural Ventilation for Middlesbrough Sports Village

Natural Ventilation for Middlesbrough Sports Village

Project name: Middlesbrough Sports Village
Market sector: Education/Leisure
Geographic sector: Middlesbrough

Project details
This £18 million iconic state of the art sports facility at Prissick, Middlesbrough is set to open in May 2015. The new sports village will provide world class sports facilities for a number of disciplines. The facilities include a £1m velodrome, an athletics field and stadium, huge sports halls that house basketball, hockey, netball and football as well as outdoor running track and all weather pitches.

Project overview
Working alongside Main Contractors Willmott Dixon, GDL secured the contract to design, manufacture and install x16 Intelivent Solarstore Natural Ventilation Units. Our units sustainably ventilate the sports halls using solar power to increase the ventilation rate by over 75%. This is particularly effective in summer and times of high occupancy.

GDL also designed and supplied the Brise Soleil System to the main entrance of the sports facility. The bespoke 200mm deep bladed system provides shading to the glazed wall of the building. The length of the blades were longer than the standard maximum therefore we designed a unique blade taking into consideration their deflection and the possible wind and snow loadings. We also supplied a frameless Louvre Screen and Double Louvred Doors on the ground floor to the plant area. The bespoke louvres were designed to allow for a larger opening through the plant room doors.
