Introduction:
Pentland Homes is an award-winning housebuilder and one of Kents leading regional property developers. In 2007, the company completed a contemporary development of 8 apartments located in the scenic port town of Hythe.
The customer:
Established in 1998, Pentland Homes specialises in building homes to high specifications, using traditional construction methods. The developer achieved Gold Status in the Best House category and Silver in the Best Small House Builder category at the 2006 What House Awards.
The project:
Set in half an acre of landscaped communal gardens, Howey Apartments is a three-storey development comprising eight generously proportioned two-bedroom apartments.
Overlooking the Royal Military Canal, the apartments have an exceptionally light and airy feel, thanks to double height glazing, porthole-style windows and roof skylights. The first and second floor apartments have recessed balconies offering sea views and each apartment has been finished to a high standard with elegant, contemporary interiors.
The balustrade:
FUSION® Commercial stair balustrade was installed from the ground to the second floor in the modern, shared entrance stairwell. The staircase was a closed string with a straight step. The first flight of stairs from the ground to the first floor incorporated 15 steps, leading to a top landing with a 180º twin return. The balustrade was then fitted along the landingto meet the bottom of the second flight. This flight incorporated a further 15 steps from the first to second floor, leading to a final top landing with a 270º return.
