Western Red Cedar and Ipe Hardwood for garden refurbishment

Western Red Cedar and Ipe Hardwood Decking from Silva Timber were chosen for a major garden refurbishment for a home in Winchmore Hill, North London.

Garden designer Miles Raybould, from Belsize Gardens, was entrusted with the task of creating a modern family garden that was both elegant and stylish, complementing the design of a house renovation. The garden was required to tie together an existing garden studio with the brand new extension.

Western Red Cedar Battens were used to clad the extension of the property as well as to create a Slatted Screen Fence around the garden boundaries, including a living wall. The darker hues of Ipé Hardwood Decking complement the vibrant range of colours of Western Red Cedar.

Miles Raybould comments “The clients both work in the studio so the garden had to work all year round. My inspiration therefore came from tying in the studio building with the new extension. This was achieved through a strong architectural design that incorporates Western Red Cedar Trellis, Western Red Cedar Battens, Ipé Hardwood Decking, rendered raised beds and oak sleeper borders.

The use of soft planting and living walls helps to soften the architectural lines and create a lush, vibrant garden that I am very proud of. I think it connects wonderfully with its surroundings.”
